About

“The Delta State is a rock band from Royal Northamptonshire.

Soaring harmonies layered over crashing guitars layered over old reed organs layered over thick bass layered over inventive drums; the blend of sounds is at once familiar yet hard to pin down. It rocks, it drones, it’s tender, it’s powerful and it draws on so many inspirations; but the eclectic influences never overwhelm the focussed song-writing. Dylan at his wordy, electric best; the ragged glory of Neil Young; the murky chill of Closer-era Joy Division; the epic swells of The Dirty Three – it’s all there and it all blends perfectly into a sound that is absolutely their own. It’s not an obvious sound, but it’s an effective one.

All of this is achieved through a DIY approach to all aspects of the band. Disappointed with the results achieved in various recording studios, the band set about dealing with the recording process themselves using limited resources. It’s hard to tell that all the songs were recorded with little equipment in the members’ cellars and living rooms. It’s something that had to be done though and the band has benefited from the process with some well-refined song arrangements and an increased understanding of the recording and mixing. Choosing not to do things by half, the band took this DIY philosophy a step further and put together their own videos to accompany some of their better songs. Never has vintage porn been soundtracked so well as on the One Track Mind promo.

In addition to some striking original songs, audiences have been impressed with the committed live performances of the band. The impressive volume, tight musicianship and now familiar noise-based conclusions to the live set have left a lasting impression on indie chin-strokers and hard-to-please promoters everywhere.”
